Amazon launches new cloud services for Europe

Amazon Web Services unveils AWS European Sovereign Cloud
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a cloud infrastructure developed specifically for Europe. This initiative aims to meet the specific requirements of public authorities and heavily regulated industries such as critical infrastructure operators (KRITIS). The AWS European Sovereign Cloud operates within the EU and offers the same security, availability, and performance as existing AWS regions, but with the added benefit of data processing and storage within Europe.
Expanded control and compliance for European customers
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud enables customers to comply with strict European data protection and security regulations by ensuring full control over data processing and storage within the EU. This is supported by independent systems for accounting and usage measurement, which ensure that all data and metadata remain in the EU. The first region of this new cloud will be located in Germany, with plans for further expansion in Europe.
Opportunities for vendors and sellers
The introduction of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud could bring significant benefits to merchants and sellers on Amazon. In particular, those working in regulated industries or working with sensitive data could benefit from improved data protection and security standards. The ability to store and process data within the EU could increase customer trust and make it easier to comply with local regulations. In turn, this could lead to an expansion of the customer base and an increase in sales figures, as companies and consumers place increasing value on data protection and local data storage.
Additional options and benefits for AWS customers
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud complements existing AWS offerings such as AWS Outposts and AWS Dedicated Local Zones, which enable customers to adapt their cloud infrastructure to specific location requirements. These offerings provide a consistent hybrid cloud experience and help customers meet specific regulatory requirements. With the new cloud infrastructure, AWS customers can benefit from low latency, high availability, and the extensive portfolio of cloud services that AWS offers worldwide.
